"My name is R.W. Randolph. I am a professional wrestler."
Those words are the at the heart of what the Broken Saint sees when he looks in the mirror. He enters the ring with the intention of winning matches and making people want to see him lose. He's been successful for nearly 9 years.
Growing up in the Southeastern United States (exactly where has been a closely guarded secret) He had always wanted to be a professional wrestler. He preferred the fighters of the day, such as Stan "the Lariat" Hansen, Terry Gordy, and Dick Murdoch to the flashier performers. It was during the big wrestling surge of the late '90s that R.W. decided to start training, under an Indy Legend by the name of Wayne "Extreme Machine" Owens. It was under Owens that he learned to appreciate the basics of wrestling, basics that he has often seen as being shunned by younger performers of today.
When he started wrestling, his bookings were often few and far between in local venues, as he wasn't as over the top as some of his contemporaries. This ultimately made him bitter towards the aerialists. Instead of changing his style, he would often show up unannounced at the shows, raising hell with anyone who was popular. One such act occurred at a 3-day Legends Weekend. He would go on to wrestle 6 times that weekend, using the basics as well as some dirty tactics to get the fans soundly against him. From that point, he went from local wrestler to regional performer.
As he started wrestling through the Southeast, many of the local guys told him he was too fat to be a wrestler. He was also told that he had no moves to help him stand out against anyone else. Slowly, his matches were becoming more violent. The local guys hated his old-school brawler mentality, but not as much as the fans hated what he did in the ring. He used their hatred to his advantage, declaring that he won't stop until someone can put him in his place once and for all. That declaration seemed to be a license to print money, as people came from miles around whenever the name "R.W. Randolph" was listed on a flyer.
The fans were willing to see him get shown what modern wrestling was all about, and he was willing to teach his opponents why his style still has a place in this business. Along the way, he met Devon D'Andre, an aerialist who saw that R.W.'s sticking to his guns was the result of the love he had for the business. They would meet again backstage at the first National promotion where Randolph was booked: The Colosseum.
On the National stage, R.W. was called a redneck as a result of where he was from, despite his cold demeanor and apparent lack of an accent. Like many of his perceived flaws, he used it to his advantage by playing up his southern roots. The result was him winning the Extreme Title, which he held for 4 months. During this time, he became known as the "Hardcore Hick," visible muscle for people who had the right amount of money. Throughout his run, he'd be under the employ of either Dylan Cage or Trent Helms, as well as raising hell on his own. His matches with Syn, Justin Sayne, Chris Schulz, Pete Anselmo, and Dylan Cage proved that he was more than an out of place Country Bumpkin. He proved he could hold his own and even beat some of the biggest names in the business.
Upon the closing of the Colosseum, R.W. went back to the Indies, with a higher asking price due to his name recognition. He wouldn't stay there for long, as a phone call from D'Andre brought the Hardcore Hick's attention to a new promotion: ICE. And the plan was set: Randolph would be one of the first members of a new stable: The Broken Saints.
His first match was a decisive victory of Spiker. It was during the aftermath that the first part of the plan was enacted. They beat down Spiker viciously. At the end of the night, the final piece was put into place, as Christopher Titan would join the group. The next week, the trio laid the Alias Division to waste. and Randolph saw his next opportunity. At the first ppv as a team, R.W. and D'Andre defeated the EWF. Later that night, Kenji Yamada would claim the Alias Title. The Hardcore Hick then came out and declared his intentions to take the title from him.
Yamada announced the belt to be the Deathmatch Championship, and R.W., after a decisive victory against Dan Stein and Adam Lax, followed by a second one against Traci Johnson, got his shot. Their match was brutal, and Randolph lived up to the nickname that he was given, taking the belt in a match that was but a sign of things to come. Randolph decided that he was the new King of the Deathmatch, and kept the title as is. He would go on to successfully defend the title against Jayson Black, Sebastian de Lenfent and Jace Martello. He is the longest reigning Alias Champion to date, and was the last man to hold the title.
Other notable victories for R.W. Randolph in his time in ICE include several over Tsukino Meiou and Hall of Famer Chris Jacobs. But his biggest win came at Extreme Measures 2008, in a Title Unification match against Masaharu Tanabashi. The violent encounter, and the assist from Eli Storm, made the Pitbull of the Broken Saints the new Universal Champion. He has since instituted the Championship Code of Honor, laws he feels will improve the quality of his reign. A rematch against Tanabashi in a cage proved his worth, as did a hard fought victory over Chris Jacobs. However, shortly thereafter it seemed like ICE was done...
Near the end of the line for ICE, R.W. seemed alone, even as the flag bearer for the Broken Saints. He then realized he WAS the team in many regards. As he enters PWE, he takes the mantle "The Broken Saint" with him.
His debut in PWE was sudden and abrupt. He felt that he was still Universal Champion, having never lost the title in ICE. He proceeded to declare War on Wrestling. He wreaked havoc in PWE, attacking anyone who got within arm's reach. He also did the same in XWF, shocking everyone. The 2009 Road 2 Glory Tournament showed him dominant until the finals, when he was derailed by none other than Lee Stone.
Around this time saw another war develop, this time with Chris Jacobs. In their final encounter, Randolph shattered Jacobs' ankle. The war was on upon Jacobs' return, which saw him reunited with his estranged girlfriend Marie. Jacobs' had the upperhand, demolishing him over the 2 days of All Star Weekend. R.W., at this time won the XWF X-treme Title, holding it briefly. At Summer Slaughter, the war came full circle, and R.W. defeated Jacobs in a violent encounter.
Finished with Jacobs, Randolph went back to what he sought to begin with: The PWE Universal Title. His opposition would be Tomoko Hanahara, the woman he defeated in the Semi-Finals of Road 2 Glory. He was the only PWE superstar to hold a pinfall over her at that point. So the match was set at Cyberslam. This time, Tomoko scored the victory. Frustrated by the loss, and wanting to spend time with his family, R.W. declared that they would fight one last time, and if he lost, he would retire. He helped train her in Wrestling as he prepared for Destiny. This match would be R.W.'s night, as he applied the Clock Out, taking the title from his hated rival.
The reign would be brief, as at Clash I he would tie with K Money in a cage match. Crowning Glory 2010 saw what many believed to be his final wrestling match, falling to defeat at the hands of K-Money with an assist from long-time rival Dylan Cage. The newly formed New Organization of Wrestling reigned supreme.
Randolph focused on his wrestling school for a while, mainly a protege by the name of Roshan Nocturne. An encounter with her boyfriend resulted in his only MMA contest to date: a 90 second submission win over Jason "The Jabber" Wocky.
He continued to follow the goings on with PWE, as his friends Tsukino Meiou and Masaharu Tanabashi continued to compete there. As he witnessed the NOW continue to wreak havoc on the promotion, he decided something must be done. He issued the Ultimatum for control in the weeks leading up to All Star Weekend. On Night 1, the Ultimatum was answered by none other than Christian Connolly. C2 offered R.W. the position of Head of Talent Relations.
Randolph's used the position to create unusual matches, and used the Enemigoes in various ways that included Opposition, Security, Ring Crew, and even a Referee. He has focused mainly on the Vicious Title Division, but has set up matches that he felt were beneficial to the promotion. Including Cyberslam VII's epic main event between Dylan Cage and K Money.
Most recently, R.W. has stepped down from his position of Head of Talent Relations, and has returned to the ring. The arrival of the Known Unknown made him uncomfortable, and the feeling that it was a ghost from his past caused him to enter the 2011 Road 2 Glory. He knows this could be one of the toughest challenges of his career.
