Wrestler Name:
Masaharu Tanabashi (棚橋雅久)
Moniker(s):
The Steel Cage Warrior: While this name originated after a series of violent cage matches in 2005, it has grown to be a symbol of Tanabashi's never give up attitude. Like a warrior on the battlefield, he'll fight to the very end. Because of this, steel cage matches play in his favor.
Mr. Road 2 Glory: PWE's Road 2 Glory tournament began in it's predecessor, International Championship Entertainment (originally named Internet Championship Entertainment). In December of 2004, Masaharu Tanabashi won the very first Road 2 Glory and became the first ICE Universal Champion. Ever since then, Masaharu Tanabashi has been in every single Road 2 Glory tournament and will continue to do so as long as there is a Road 2 Glory tournament.
Age:
29 (Born: 06/11/1981)
Height:
6'1"
Weight:
235 lbs
Hometown:
Osaka, Japan
Personality:
When it comes to pro-wrestling, Masaharu Tanabashi is arguably the strongest follower of traditional values. His strict moral code has made him into a hero that the fans can count on when they want to see someone taken down a notch or two.
With pro-wrestling being his entire life, he has grown to detest these three things:
1. "Superstarism": Tanabashi has seen too many cases where a promotion either overly promotes it's main eventers, or main eventers from other promotions that are in good standings with a promotion's boss show up and gets put in the front of the line for the best matches. This special treatment always leave a group of wrestlers fighting twice as hard for half as much of the spotlight. In the end, you only only get inside this circle when one of them retires and you'll be shoved back out when that inner circle wrestler decides he wants back in. Because of this, Tanabashi expects no special treatment. Unlike these "superstars", Tanabashi expects to be freely booked on any show instead of being saved for the big shows and for anything he wins, he wants to earn it.
2. Laziness: While this can be apart of Superstarism, this applies to all wrestlers. He absolutely hates seeing when wrestlers manage to float on by their matches while Tanabashi gives it his all every single match.
3. Rulebreaking: Tanabashi would rather be defeated honorably than win dishonorably. Those that don't have that same point of view become a natural enemy to Tanabashi. Unfortunately this also means that it is possible to gain the upper hand on him by breaking the rules.
Alignment:

Background:
When Masaharu Tanabashi became a pro-wrestler he saw that he had only one real option and that was to wrestle in America. Japan had became over saturated with pro-wrestling promotions to the point that making even the smallest of impact could easily take a decade or more. With America being the land of opportunity, he thought he would be getting opportunities that are virtually unheard of in Japan.
When he arrived in America in February of 2003, the only thing he had going for him was his ability to speak fluent English. Everyone laughed at his idea of bringing back traditional wrestling and he was severely beaten in the ring. Rather than cutting his losses, Tanabashi decided he came too far to give up. The promotion he was working for, The Colosseum, did have a Japanese wrestler before him named Tsukino Meiou. Meiou also had an American partner by the name of James Powers, also known as "The BioHazard". After managing to contact Meiou and explaining his situation, Meiou agreed to trained Tanabashi to become a better wrestler.
Meiou and his American partner both came out of retirement to train the rookie and soon recommended that the trio move to a promotion where Tanabashi would have more of a chance to thrive. That promotion was Lethal All-Pro Wrestling (LAW). Tanabashi quickly gained his first championship and over the next year, he inspired the promotion to create the Tradition Championship. Tanabashi's departure from the federation was a particularly bitter one. In June of 2004, LAW created a World Cup tournament that featured Meiou and Tanabashi as apart of Team Japan. The original format involved four small round robin tournaments featuring one member of each of the four teams. The owner of LAW, AC Botts, abruptly ended the tournament citing the lack of interest in the tournament. Meiou took serious offense to this and accused Botts of filling the tournament with nobodies to make the entire tournament look bad. To protest this, Meiou immediately left LAW and declared that he was retired. Powers also went into retirement and said absolutely nothing would bring him back as pro-wrestling only created the worst moments of his life. Tanabashi followed his two mentors, because right or wrong, he felt it was better to follow the people he did know instead of the person he didn't. While Powers was gone for good, Meiou told Tanabashi he would call if any opportunities popped up.
